Hope and Togetherness in September

September is a month rich in meaning for us as a parish family. It opens with the Season of Creation (Sept 1–Oct 4), reminding us of our shared mission to care for the earth, our common home. Every small act of respect for nature—reducing waste, planting, conserving energy—becomes a prayer of gratitude to God, the Creator of all life.

This month, we also celebrate the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Sept 8). Just as the birth of a child brings joy and new hope to a family, Mary’s birth is a reminder that God’s promises never fail. Her quiet “yes” continues to echo in our hearts, encouraging us to trust even when life is uncertain.

We also take time to honor our catechists and teachers of the faith. They are not only those who stand in front of a class or prepare children for sacraments. Many times, they are parents teaching their children to make the sign of the cross, grandparents sharing stories of faith, or friends encouraging one another to keep trusting in God. Their dedication is a gift to our parish, shaping the faith of the next generation.

And as the month closes, the Church marks the World Day of Migrants and Refugees (Sept 29). In our community, we don’t need to look far to see this reality. We are blessed with brothers and sisters from different lands, languages, and cultures—yet in the Eucharist, we all share one table. Each time we welcome a newcomer, we welcome Christ Himself.

Taken together, these September celebrations give us one message: we are a pilgrim people of hope, called to care—for creation, for one another, for the faith of the next generation, and for those seeking a home in our midst. Like Mary, may we keep saying “yes” to God. Like true disciples, may we teach with love. And like a family of faith, may we always find ways to welcome and embrace each other.

9 月は、私たち教会共同体にとって特別な意味があるお月です。1 日から 10 月 4 日までの「被造物の季節」は、地球という共通の家を大切にする使命を思い起こさせてくれます。ごみを減らすこと、植物を育てること、エネルギーを節約することなど、自然を敬う小さな行い一つひとつが、いのちの創り主である神への感謝の祈りとなります。

また、9 月 8 日には「聖母マリアの誕生」をお祝いします。子どもの誕生が家族に喜び と新しい希望をもたらすように、マリアの誕生も神の約束が決して失われないことを思い起こさせてくれます。マリアの静かな「はい」という応えは、今も私たちの心に響き、不安の中でも神を信頼するよう励ましてくれます。

さらに、このお月には「教会の教えを伝える人々（カテキスタ）」をたたえる時もあります。信仰を教えるのは、教室に立つ人や秘跡の準備をする人だけではありません。子どもに十字を切ることを教える両親、信仰の物語を伝える祖父母、互いに励まし合う友人たちもまた、信仰を伝える大切な存在です。その献身は私たちの小教区への贈り物であり、次の世代の信仰を形づくっていきます。

そして月の終わりには、9 月 29 日の「世界移住者・難民の日」を迎えます。私たちの共同体の中にも、すでにこの現実を見ることができます。異なる国籍、言葉、文化を持つ兄弟姉妹に恵まれている私たちの共同体は、聖体の食卓を共に囲むことで一つになります。新しい人を迎えるとき、私たちはキリストご自身を迎えているとのことです。

9 月のこれらのお祝いをあわせて考えると、わたしたちにひとつのメッセージが見えてきます。――わたしたちは『希望を生きる巡礼の民』であり、被造物を大切にし、互いを思いやり、次の世代に信仰を伝え、そして新しい居場所を求めている人を迎え入れるように、神に招かれているのです。マリア様のように、いつも神に「はい」と答えることができますように。真の弟子として、愛をもって教えることができますように。信仰の家族として、互いを迎え入れ、抱きしめ合うことができますように。
